"I am looking forward to being able to eat comfortably at home and in public using this new attractive spoon." - Ellen
Pletho is a Florida-based medical technology startup dedicated to creating assistive devices that enhance quality of life for individuals with fine motor control challenges. Our team combines expertise in engineering, design, and user-centric solutions - with decades of experience and success in relevant fields between us.
SPN1 is Pletho’s flagship product, designed to address the common issue of food spills during meals for those with hand tremors. Its innovative features make it an essential tool for those seeking independence and dignity.
SPN1 was born through the need of a real customer. Ellen Livingston came to the founder of Pletho (her grandson) in late 2022 with a challenge for him and his product consulting firm. She was experiencing the daily challenge of spilling food as she ate and it was causing her real problems.
Ellen wanted a spoon that was simple to use, would stop the spills, and would be dignified to use in public. She had looked at various existing solutions and found that none of them properly addressed her needs or worked very well.
The process of working with Ellen to prototype and design the ultimate solution has led us to building Pletho as a tremor assistive device company. We now focus on our core mission of continuing to research, pinpoint and address ways that we can use technology to solve new daily challenges for folks with fine motor control challenges.
